Salmon River Report 9/22 published 22 September 2017
The Salmon River is running at 335 CFS Until 11:59 PM Fri SEP 29. Warm dry weather is in the forecast until next Wednesday for the Salmon River area. Very good fishing right now in spite of the unusually warm weather for this time of the year. Early morning and late afternoon has been the best times to be on the river with generally good fish movement during those periods. Most days things have slowed down during the heat of the day, but even then many areas have had smaller groups of fish moving all day long. The last two days fishing above the Short bridge in town up through the Ball Park has been very good. After the sun is up look for Salmon to hold in deeper pools during the day with less upstream movement. Egg sacs, large bodied flies, and egg imitation plastics have all worked well. Lots of big Coho are also mixed in with the King Salmon. Lots of Salmon in the Estuary, and the Lake fishing continues to be outstanding with tremendous amounts of fish being marked that have yet to enter the river system. If you're coming up anytime from now to late October you should expect to have some of the best fishing in years.
