Salmon River / Lake Ontario Fishing Report published 14 August 2015
The Salmon River is running at 185 CFS, the best fishing has been from the town pool downstream.The best baits have been worms and small gold spinners for smallmouth bass and, small trout. The Douglaston Salmon Run has reported a couple of Salmon sighted in the lowest part of the river but nothing to get excited about yet.
The brown trout fish on Lake Ontario remains good in 95-110 feet of water off the five stacks.The hottest lures have been Michigan Stinger Stingray Mongoose, Michigan Stinger Stingray UV Chicken Wing, and Michigan Stinger Stingray UV Die Hard.
The salmon are scattered from Fair Haven to Henderson in 160-350 feet of water.The best lures have been the new Green Stop Light Pro-Troll attractor, with an A-TOM-MIK ultra green glo fly behind it, Spin Doctor Green Dot with Green Stripe on back (Fat Nancy's custom) with an A-TOM-MIK UV hammer fly. In the afternoon try a Spin Doctor Chrome Green Dot attractor with an A-TOM-MIK pro-am fly or, a Pro-Troll Pig Pen attractor with an A-TOM-MIK Big Fin fly. 400-450 coppers with a custom Fat Nancy's Green/Chartreuse Dot Spin Doctor attractor with an A-TOM-MIK Hypnotist T146 fly. When running cut bait try a Kingfisher II - Magna Glow Chartreuse Splatter in front of it. Dipsy divers bites have been the hottest on a 2 1/2 setting out 250-280.
